If you qualify for online replacement of your registration you MUST replace it online.
To replace a lost vehicle registration
- Replace your vehicle registration online or visit a motor vehicle agency (owner or co-owner) with acceptable identification (driver license).
- Important note: a notarized statement of consent from the vehicle owner is required to authorize sale of a replacement registration to someone who is not the titled owner or co-owner appearing in person at an agency.
- Present a New Jersey insurance identification card or receipt from a previous registration or title transaction.
- Complete Vehicle Application Registration (Form BA-49). Please Note: Where vehicle ownership is shared, both the owner and co-owner will need to sign form BA-49.
- Pay the duplicate registration fee:
- $5 for one year passenger/commercial registration.
- $5 for the last year of a four-year accelerated registration.
- $11 anytime during the first three years of a four year accelerated registration.
To replace a lost vehicle registration for a leased vehicle
- Contact your leasing company for legal permission to obtain a duplicate registration. Power of Attorney (POA) must include:
- Lessee name (person leasing vehicle).
- Statement authorizing lessee to sign application.
- Vehicle Identification Number (VIN), year, make and model of vehicle.
- Visit a motor vehicle agency with acceptable identification (driver’s license).
- Present a New Jersey insurance identification card or receipt from a previous registration or title transaction.

- Complete the Vehicle Application Registration (Form BA-49).
